Welcome to Aylsham - a great destination for walking in Norfolk

Aylsham is a very attractive town some 13 miles north of Norwich in the county of Norfolk.  It sits midway between Norwich and Cromer and is an ideal base for walking in North Norfolk area.   There is plenty to offer the walker and visitor – whether it's a short stroll around the historic market town or a more challenging walk along a section of the Weavers’ Way.  In our aim to achieve Walkers are Welcome status, we want to inspire you to view Aylsham as a great walking destination.

What makes Aylsham special for walkers?  We have lots to offer. 

Aylsham is at the heart of 2 long distance paths and a number of circular walks

• The Marriotts Way starts (or finishes) in Aylsham and runs 26 miles to Norwich.
• The Weavers’ Way which runs through the Broads to Aylsham and then north towards Cromer through rolling farmland and then onto the rugged North Norfolk Coast, linking eventually with the North Norfolk Coastpath and the Peddar’s Way. 
• The Bure Valley Footpath traces the Bure Valley River to Wroxham.

Public transport makes visiting the area easy to reach. 

• It’s possible to arrive in Aylsham using the narrow gauge Bure Valley Railway which connects to the main railway network – offering a very different travel experience!
• There is a regular bus service to Norwich and Cromer and outlying villages (take a look at the public transport page).
• Aylsham is also on one of the Regional Cycle routes so a great place for cyclists to stop and explore.
